Searching for Isaiah

The video triptych, Searching for Isaiah, is an experiential engagement with the past where I transcribe an inventory of my 5th great grandfather’s estate that lists the names of the enslaved, alongside farm animals and objects as mundane as lumber, meat, and kitchen furniture. This list includes the names of my 4th great-grandmother and her children, the biological grandchildren of their owner.

The accompanying right and left channels compare the revelation of this document's contents with the ongoing search for the final resting place of Isaiah's son and namesake, my 4th great-grandfather along with the actual land and homestead in Harris County, Georgia where this family resided.
